Top-load washing machine strip-down clean: rusted stainless steel tub and clogged filter

The outside of the stainless steel tub was brown with rust all over, the lint filter was clogged with lint and black deposits, and the filter cover and the parts around the tub had brown deposits on them.

What I did

Test-ran the machine before dismantling
Lifted out the inner tub and scrubbed the rust off its outer surface
Removed the pulsator, filter assembly and every other part to wash separately
Cleaned the outer tub and the tub rim
Reassembled, levelled and ran a test cycle

Result

The pulsator, tub rim and parts are clean again, and everything was refitted, ready for use.
